The information contained here comes from information I have gleaned from my Grandfathers notes and from his Niece. The links back past the mid 1800's comes from Dan Mooers, a lawyer in Portland Maine with a truly awesome database and several others. It would be a nightmare to try to determine who contributed what, I have found bits and pieces on Genealogy.com and Rootsweb as also one terrific lead on the LDS site. Several folks have also responded to me on Genforum with more help. If I have placed what someone has deemed to be their own personal property here please contact me and let me have a chance to defend it's inclusion here... The sole object of putting this on the web is to help others and to help me find more relatives and enlarge the database... Please write to me with your comments, corrections and additions. I honestly appreciate all the input I can get.

Hi Pete,

I am sorry I have neglected to write and answer your inquiry as to the e-mail of Gladys Craig, the Ashland Librarian but I finally have gotten it. I have e-mailed the wedding photo with the questions you have about it and also the picture of the four ladies with your question as to who was the lady in the left corner of the photo. When I get an answer from Gladys as to the identities I will let you know right away and not take so long this time to answer.

Things have been a little hectic here but now they are settling down and I have more time to write. I went to the Presque Isle library and found the following information. I hope this is a relation. Buried in the Johnson Cemetery in Presque Isle is Clinton Augustus Allen (Son of James H. & Lovina Allen) October 25, 1857 to April 30, 1894

That is all the information I have but I will be going to the Caribou Library to look at the records for the Maysville area. Since it was divided in half and Presque Isle and Caribou each took 1/2 I have to check at the Caribou Library also. My sister wanted to know how I looked up records so she is going along help out. If we discover anything I will let you know.

Hope all is well with the family. I got to read some of your journal but didn't get to finish it. I like the new format.

Well got to go and get something done.

Take care and write when you can.

Sally

General Notes:

A. T. MOOERS

Mr. Mooers was born in Pittston, Maine, in 1812, and came to this place in 1842 in the employ of Mr. John Sinclair. He very soon afterward went into business for himself, and for 48 years dealt quite extensively in dry goods and groceries at "the corner." For 38 years, in succession, he was postmaster of this town, and in 1870 was a representative in the State Legislature. His first wife was Miss Hannah L. Keith, of Vassalboro, Maine, by whom he had one son, who for several years was a sort; of "Sinbad, the Sailor," and has lately been taking subscriptions for the HEADLIGHT. His second wife was Miss Olive A. Warren of Canaan, Maine, by whom were born to him two sons and a daughter.

Mr. Mooers was among the few in this part of the State, who firmly believed that fruit raising could be successfully carried on in the Aroostook. His work harmonized with his faith, and after experimenting in various ways to discover the varieties of fruits adapted to this part of Maine, he at length secured the finest apple and plum orchard in this section of the county.

In the cultivation of plums he was particularly successful, and was the originator of several fine varieties of seedling plums that are now grown extensively in most of the States of the Union. Among them is the magnificent plum that is known as "Mooers' Arctic Seedling," which has a national reputation, and to which few, if any, varieties of plums are equal.

He also succeeded admirably in the cultivation of cherry trees and grape vines, as well as all of the small fruits adapted to this region.

He was the first to introduce the butternut and white oak to Ashland, and planted a large number of the finest shade trees to be seen in this village.

His trees seemed to be his life, and he spent the greater portion of his time among them, so that he was an easy man to find although rapid in his movements from one part of his farm to another, for if anyone was in search of him it was only necessary to take a position under a tree, somewhere on his place, and he was quite sure to come in sight directly.

Although of a nervous temperament, and not of remarkable physical strength Mr. Mooers lived to a good old age, and but for a sudden and severe cold terminating in pneumonia, might have now been alive and well.

He Died Feb. 6th, 1894, and lacked less than one month of being 81 years

Ansel married Hannah L. Keith before 1845. Hannah was born in Vasselboro, Maine.

Children from this marriage were:

          i.   James Hampden Mooers (born on 16 Oct 1846 Unity, Maine - died on 26 Nov 1908 in Knoxville, Tennessee). James married Mary Ellen Toby on 6 Oct 1868. Mary was born in Aug 1841. Another name for Mary was Ellen C. Toby.

Ansel married Olive Ann Warren on 7 Jul 1846 in Unity, Waldo, Maine.

General Notes:
Notes for Jonathan Mooers:
In the Records and Files of Essex County Quarterly Court, Vol. 5, 1662-1667, at page 344: "Jonathan Moores, aged 28 years and Sarath Longhorn, aged about 14 years, deposed that being at their uncle Jonson's house on Apr. 16, 1674, etc."
The same records, in Vol 6 1675-1678 at pages 450-453, the Account of Milia of Newbury, Jonathan Mores listed.

In 1688 Jonathan and his brother were jointed accessed for two houses, 52 acres of land, two horses and various animals. This gives credence to the date of death of Edmund as 1676.

Jonathan was a member of the military company, being promoted from corporal to cornet in 1689 and to lieutenant in 1690. Either he or his son bearing the same name was a soldier in 1707.

Probate records of Essex County (#18668) show that Jonathan wrote his Will in 1692, and on Sept. 28, 1693 his estate was committed to Probate, partially based on his Will and partially intestate.
Although "Amy" shows Jonathan (April 3, 1694) the son of this Jonathan, it is not possible based on the Probate records.
Children Hannah and Sarah, although not appearing in Newbury birth records, are listed in father's Will.

A book, "The Descendants of Ensign John Moor" states: There was at Newbury, Mass (Salem probabte records), Lieutenant Jonathan Moore who died 1692, whose father was Edmund Moore who died about 1704, surviving his son. Jonathan left a Samuel, not of age in 1692 and not of interest to us as he was, it seems from another source, born in 1688."

Came on Ship Confidence, apparently, and settled in Newbury as first settlers.

He is found in the Newbury records as early as 1640. The New England Families Genealogical and Memorial lists his date of death as June 7, 1676, some researchers list his date of death as 1699, children are listed in Newbury records and is Savage.
Deborah:

Although it is not without some other theories, I believe it is generally accepted that the Jonathan who married Elizabeth Woodhead was the son of Jonathan Mooers, born 1646 and married to Constance Langhorne. The 1646 Jonathan was the son of Edmund and Ann Mooers.

I realize that some other researchers do not agree with the above but The difficulty is that someone purports to have a bible that suggests a Jonathan was born in 1694, and a descendent in that line a long ago claimed to go back to Edmund by making the 1694 Jonathan the son of the 1646 Jonathan. However, I think the Will of Jonathan Mooers (born 1646/died 1692) and the Probate Records in Massachusetts refutes the suggestion that Edmund's son Jonathan had a son Jonathan who was born in 1694. That's pretty difficult if you die in 1692 as the Probate Records indicate.

From Wendel Hansen:
From SOME DESCENDANTS OF EDMUND MOOERS 1614-1677 OF NEWBURY, MASSACHUSETTS
by Amy Mooers Williams, Detroit, Michigan. June 1956.
"Edmund Mooers b. 1614 in Reniton Magna or Kington Magna County, Dorsetshire, England; d. Dec. 6, 1677[sic] in Newbury, Mass. His wife, Ann Travis, d. June 7 or 17, 1676. She was born in England. Edmund came withis wife on the ship "Confidence" from Southampton, England to Boston April 24, 1638. He was a carpenter and took the oath in 1678 age 64. The road from Rowley to Newbury was laid out in 1660 through the farms of Edmund Mooers and Robert Adams. Edmund Mooers, Proprietor, petitioned the General Court Oct. 18, 1648 for full title to lands bought of John Towle, deceased. He deeded the land to his son, Edmund Jr. with the consent of his son Jonathan Dec. 20, 1677. In 1670, Edmund Mooers signed documents  opposed to Mr. Parker in the controversy with the Pastor and he was fined with the others in 1671."

DEPOSITION of Jonathan Platts that going to Haverhill when Richard Longhorne was sick, with John Pickard, he left the latter on this side the river and went over with the daughter of Richard Longhorne to see him and told him his brother Pickard was on the other side. He told Deponent that he was very glad of it, for he had a great desire to speak with him, that he knew not how God might dispose of him and he desired Deponent to come to him again when his brother being with him, and he, having told his mind to his brother Pickard, the latter told Longhorne that he would relate what he said to Deponent for fear of spending him. Concerning his children's disposal, John Pickard said to leave them to the disposal of their Grandmother to which Longhorne replied that he would and also to their two Aunts, and that he would have them advise with Goodwife Bayly who was a good woman, whom he believed loved them Well. This was about three days before he died. John Pickard affirmed the same.
