June Week 4, 2009 |

Evil is like a shadow - it has no real substance of its own, it is simply a lack of light. You cannot cause a shadow to disappear by trying to fight it, stamp on it, by railing against it, or any other form of emotional or physical resistance. In order to cause a shadow to disappear, you must shine light on it.
Shakti Gawain, teacher and author (b. 1948) I had to pick up Amanda at 1800, I went a bit early so I could do some shopping. Her plane left Seattle 20 minutes late but they made up all but 15 minutes of it...She had fun in Alaska, she went fishing with her Uncles, she was a Bridesmaid at her Aunt's wedding and visited with her G'pa. Her Great Uncle died while she was up there, I asked how old he was, she said, "64 I think..." sobering. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day; I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. Edgar Guest, poet (1881-1959) Happy birthday to me
I cooked spaghetti for Autumn and myself, Christy got back from Colville with
Christian and Mike about 8 and we had some ice cream I
made a circle in the air
with my finger and said whoop-de-doo and went to bed... one of my better
birthdays. Ever wonder why we don't celebrate Conception Day? That would be about September 30th for me. How would you go about that, ice cream and cake wouldn't cut it... seems more like a beer, dancing and bonfires sort of event to me. I have been spending a lot of time on Facebook, there are enough people I know on there to keep it interesting and I an making a few contacts on the genealogy side... what bothers me about Facebook is how energetically they encourage superficiality. We have an opportunity to really communicate and folks spend most of their time sending drinks, taking tests, figuring out which Beatle they most resemble... I guess no one is getting hurt but it would be nice to have a real dialogue with someone. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 "An election is coming. Universal peace is declared and the foxes have a sincere interest in prolonging the lives of the poultry" T.S. Eliot Damn truck won't start again... Christian passed his written drivers test... ominous... Thursday, June 25, 2009 To one that advised him to set up a democracy in Sparta, "Pray," said Lycurgus, "do you first set a democracy in your own house." Lycurgus - Source: in Plutarch's "Apophthegms of Kings and Great Commanders" Fixed the truck, there are two batteries, there is a cable from the positive terminal on one to the positive terminal on the other. on the positive terminal on one battery there are two cables. There is a spacer that connects the two that I didn't know about, when I took the connection apart it was so corroded it wouldn't pass electricity... $3.00 fixed the problem, I thought I was going to have to buy two new batteries. Facebook is fun, in a way... but the upbeat perkiness and the shallow superficialness of most of the posts is really disheartening. Very little humor, There is so much inane chatter about music, pets, likes and dislikes that it just Friday, June 26, 2009 "An American-led overthrow of Saddam Hussein & and the replacement of the radical Baathist dictatorship with a new government more closely aligned with the United States would put America more wholly in charge of the region than any power since the Ottomans, or maybe even the Romans." David Frum, speechwriter for USA president, George W Bush: I took Christian to his drivers test... he ran a red light (sort of)... we go back to Colville on the 7th... I bought him a car... against my better judgment but I was overruled by the boss... its a good car and only $700. Saturday, June 27, 2009 People do not like to think. If one thinks, one must reach conclusions. Conclusions are not always pleasant. Hellen Keller Monica and I rode the BMW down to Hoopfest, we had a good time and Calie's (Actually it's Trevor's mom's) team won both games. They were awesome, I did see what their competition looks like for tomorrow and I have a rather fatalistic vision for the next two games... they take no prisoners. The game before theirs was brutal and the winner is their next opponent. As we were passing Alaska Lane, about 20 miles south of here I saw balloons and caught a glimpse of a sigh saying this way to Don an Cheryl's and I mentally kicked myself in the butt. I was supposed to be there! They were having a 'Commitment Ceremony' or something akin to a wedding. Don is 70+ and Cheryl and considerably younger. I spun the bike around and went down to their house (Which is beautiful), people were leaving as I was going in but the gathering was just beginning to break up. I talked to Don for a few minutes and congratulated him, but I couldn't get anywhere near Cheryl. The bike ride was not as fun as it used to be, I was tense, paranoid abut cops and deer, my throttle hand gave me some pain. I was reasonably comfortable but getting on and off the damn thing hurt. Sunday, June 28, 2009 "All work and no play pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?" Calie and her team won the first game and lost the next two, that left them in third place out of 16 teams, they were 16-18 year olds playing in the adult bracket, when you consider the competition they did a wonderful job.
Part of what is wrong with the world is summed up by the fact that I needed to look up who Philip Simmons was but the media is tripping all over itself trying to fill every inch of the paper and every minute of the airways with news of a self absorbed degenerate like Michael Jackson, we ought to be ashamed... good for you Robert Ariail... you got your priorities straight, great cartoon.
Christy and I are trying to work out the logistics for next week, there is no one to watch Autumn, maybe Calie can do it but that would mean we would have to drop her off at her baby-sitting job Monday about 1300... Calie doesn't have to work on Tuesday so she can watch Autumn but that would leave me no options for Tuesday night, I would have to come home. It's days like today that make me wonder what lies in store for Christy and I. Big up's and just as big crashes, so many irons in the fire we can't focus on anything for more than a minute or two. I hate the Damocles feeling that I am just a heartbeat away from oblivion... or salvation. It really doesn't matter I guess, I just wish I felt like I had a little bit of control over my little world. I know that everyone has a harrowing tale to tell. Everyone has to deal with complications and situations where they have no control... doesn't make it any easier.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 10 minutes.
