Him that I love, I wish to be free -- even from me.

Anne Morrow Lindbergh, writer (1906-2001)

Monday  December 9 , 2002

We got a call last night at 22:15 Christy got to the phone too late to answer. I didn't recognize the name, Paula Mason,  or phone number but it sounded like a name that I had seen on calls to Mike so I wasn't concerned... I checked AnyWho this morning and see that it was from Bill Mason...  wish I had checked it last night. I called him th. I will have to wait till later this morning to call, after Monica's Dental appointment.

State Taxes need to be increased, California got raped by ENRON and it cost too much to get out of trouble. Republicans say it was Davis that miss managed the situation, and they may be right but it was Republican nest building that got us into trouble, Federal Taxes are a joke... Bush has spent everything buying votes, financing wars and bailing out his buddies. We were paying off the debt under Clinton but that whole concept is out the window with this regime... I am not sure what his goals are, he talks at such a meaningless high concept level that I don't think anyone has a clue how he plans to achieve his goals. I am not sure that I even agree with his goals.

Does it bother anyone that Bush fired those two guys because they weren't Yes Men? He wants, in his own words, people who will conform to his vision for the economic revival of the country. A smart man will hire smarter men to advise him, not sycophants who are

American political parties explained: part 2

Well, yesterday we were given a lesson from the right in Republicans vs Democrats, and how they'd handle a homeless person.... loved the part where a Republican actually took out his wallet and GAVE MONEY AWAY, hahahaheheeheehooey... I think I read a science fiction story like that once.

Today we're going to look at it from the left: Republicans vs Democrats, but imagine yourself being mugged........... (cue dizzy wavy lines, woooo-ooo-oooooo music)

[Setting: Self-Defense Class]

"So, let's say you're being mugged by a Democrat in a dark alley. Where do you kick him to get away?"

"The balls."

"Democrats don't seem to have any balls lately. Anyone else?"

"The knee?"

"No, they'll just get mad."

"Then where?"

"Actually, you'd just say, 'Thank you, Senator, I'll be back to pick that up when I retire, okay?' And if they can keep the Republican's hands off your money, it'll be there waiting for you."

"Wow... cool!"

"Next, let's say you're attacked by a Republican in a dark alley. Where are you gonna kick HIM to get away?"

"Again, I'll say the balls."

"Republicans don't have balls. That's why they have the poor to fight their wars for them."

"The shin?"

"Then they just get mad."

"Okay, so where?"

"Point behind him and say, 'Hey, there's a lobbyist with a sack of money...' wait for him to turn around, and then kick him in the wallet. That's the only thing that will make him howl and scream."

Regional Center interviewer is here now... I am trying to keep a low profile...It went well, we need to get our foot in the door to get services for Cindy. She is going to need a little help making it in the real world, I have no idea what services are available for kids like her. Cindy can't really make it through the day without help. She needs someone who can help her think things through in return for her being able to to do things for them... I made a rather cruel sounding remark when I said she needs a job like being a high functioning seeing eye dog... I was serious. What ever job she gets she is going require a symbiotic relationship. I picture her being in a position where she cares for someone who is capable of giving her instructions for their care... it will probably never happen but it's one of the few things I think Cindy could excel at. She likes routine, she is good at following instructions, she is easy to entertain and can be very protective.

To himself everyone is immortal; he may know that he is going to die, but he can never know that he is dead.

Samuel Butler, writer (1835-1902)

Dentist again, Cindy and Mike had 4 and 5 cavities respectively that need painful attention... they did good but they both need another appointment to do the other side of their mouths, they are thrilled at the prospect... The biggest hassle is that this is a 4 hour affair, the Dentist is in Valencia 31 miles West of here and Mikes school is 28 miles North in Quartz Hill... tedium.

I sat in the waiting room and talked to a guy who makes his living as a stand-up comic... it was an interesting conversation for about 10 minutes and he got called in to get dentaled. Not sure why I bother to mention that but in my cloistered little world I don't get to talk to grownup's very often.

I had a little fun on a parody site called http://www.landoverbaptist.org/ someone went to a lot of trouble to make it look genuine. I was informed about it because one of the boards a friend of mine visits alt.religion.mormon.fellowship was discussing the sermon called Should Unsaved People Be Allowed To Celebrate Christmas? they were unaware of the fact that it was satire... the discussion is amusing...

Autumn had a seizure tonight, one of the most severe I have seen. It seemed to involve her whole body, her enrolled back in her head (to be precise they rolled up and to the left) one leg was bent back and one was straight her fist was clenched and her left hand was hitting her in the in the face.. not hard but slowly and firmly. Her teeth were clenched and her lips were closed but drawn tightly over her mouth like she was angry... the whole affair lasted about 3 minutes, she was stiff for about 5 minutes longer, then she asked for some milk and an apple. She seems none the worse for the experience but she went to bed early and seems a little tired.

Dishwasher is broke, Sears is coming out in the AM... early... It just doesn't seem like Christmas unless at least one major appliance goes belly-up.

Dick sent me the The Rejection That Led to the Founding of Stanford University e-mail, had he not added the admonition:

"Here's one I'm sure we'll hear from Daggett on if it is not completely true."

I would have just deleted it but since he did I had to ham it up a bit... so I sent him the quote from the site above and :

Dick:

I neglected to mention that, not only is it not “completely” true it is not true from any standpoint… personally, I think that the truth is far more poignant. The truly unfortunate aspect of this exercise, from my perspective, is that there are some who would prefer to believe the lie because it conforms to their preconceptions of the academic elite and will resent me for calling the hoax to their attention…

PS; I love this stuff, send me more.

I am sure I haven't heard the end of this..<grin> I hope...

When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.
R. Buckminster Fuller, engineer, designer, and architect (1895-1983)

Mokie came home with asthma...

I took "B" to therapy with Dr. D. , he likes "B" I think, "B" seems to open up a little when he's there...

Sears came out and fixed the dishwasher, took him 10 minutes to find the clogged drain valve, and unclog it... I didn't know there was a valve...

Another Hoax-mail... this one is about the Congressional Pensions and how Senators don't pay into Social Security... been around since I first got on the Net... People want to believe it, or it would have died out years ago. It seems as though they want to believe that wealthy and powerful people got that way because they have some sort of advantage or they are crooks or something. Most powerful and wealthy people got that way because they are very focused individuals who invested a lot of time and energy on a single goal. Some were born into positions of influence and wealth but most earned it. Most of us don't have that sort of drive, Lawyers for example, spend an incredible amount of time in school and have worked very hard on their commitment to succeed, same with Doctors and most business men. I believe that the Ken Lay's of the world are still the exception, and even they crooked ones weren't simply premeditated crooks, just greedy... I believe I could have become a lawyer or a doctor if I had been willing to set aside living my life for 8 years and go to college and then graduate school. I took the easy way... well, the path of least resistance anyway. I have never been a particularly ambitious person, I have very little passion to succeed, I count my achievements on another level I guess. I have no real long term goals, I feel no compulsion to become wealthy or powerful,  if I won the Lottery I wouldn't reject wealth but having power and influence at my age isn't a positive thing...

Invitation: If you are a dreamer, come in, If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer... If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!

 Shel Silverstein

Arguing with Republicans is a pointless exercise... they are right and you are wrong, that's just the way it is ... live with it. Abortion is bad, My guns are good, Your guns are bad, regulation is bad, deregulation is good, taxes are bad, no taxes are good, Liberals are bad, American flag stickers are good, Patriotism is good, questioning authority is bad, My freedom of speech is good, Your freedom of speech is bad, Deficit Spending is good, Welfare is Bad...

I went to the ROF, got there a little later than usual and it took me a while to lighten up and get into the swing, couple of beers and I was able to join in, I don't [deleted] we shut the place down again (2200)

Sitting in Crazy Otto's cramming one of those obscene breakfasts into myself, doing my crossword and mindlessly eavesdropping on the people across the aisle talking to the waitress, .... "blah-blah-blah... well... you wouldn't believe what we have to live with, the guy next door has a school bus parked in his back yard and it's been there for a year! The waitress said "You know you can call the police and they will come out and tag it as a derelict and make them move it out of there... blah-blah-blah..." Well, I didn't speak up, I wish I had... I wonder why they didn't keep their whining yuppie butts in the Valley. I have heard about folks up here getting into horrible feuds over petty BS like this. The idea of moving up here just to pass judgment and impose your will on your neighbors is repulsive to me... We have Gated Communities down in Valencia and out in Quartz Hill that will let you dictate what plants your neighbors can grow, how long you can park in your driveway, what color you can paint your house... gag... prompts me to conjure up visions of Nazi Germany but some folks like that sort of regimentation and uniformity... Folks come up here and wrinkle their noses at the smell of horses, whine about being awakened as sunrise by roosters crowing, move in next door to a kennel and then bitch about the noise... what are people thinking? Why move to the country and then complain about the ambiance not being as bucolic as they had envisioned... this aint Beverly Hills, hell it isn't even Saugus, it's Acton, no sidewalks, no streetlights, one cop, no stoplight... I am really getting tired of the wealthy refugees from LA & Vicinity coming up here and inflicting us with their demands and expectations... They move into little mini-suburbs, 20 to 60 houses all bunched together, critique each others landscaping, put in streetlights paint left turn lanes on two lane roads... aaaarrrrggg. I moved up here to get away from that pretentious crap.

Liberty is the possibility of doubting, the possibility of making a mistake, the possibility of searching and experimenting, the possibility of saying "No" to any authority - literary, artistic, philosophic, religious, social, and even political.

Ignazio Silone, author (1900-1978)

Christy is taking her finals today, I have accomplished nothing... Mikes friend Mark is visiting again... there is some sort of program being held at the gym at the SDA school in Lancaster... I am not thrilled about going there, I don't like the school and I am not real thrilled with the teachers, but I want to hear the kids sing...

Christian walked all the way across the back yard on these ladders... amazing little person, I left him in the van with Mokie, "B" and Autumn, the rest of the kids were bored stupid in 3 minutes but Lumpy had taken some packing material and figured out that it would link together and made chains of them then he took and rubbed them on the carpet and stuck them to the ceiling making his name and Autumns...

I've been listening to the never-ending saga of Bernie Law and aside from the fact he acted as an obedient cog and enabler for a gaggle of child molesters I feel a little sorry for him, he is the Roman Catholic equivalent of the "Good little Nazi" just trying to survive in his culture. A good CYA Christian... a loyal cop not ratting out his buddies... what's a few damaged children compared to the sanctity of the profession... I hope there's a Hell... well I guess I really don't feel sorry him... I have been around kids who were molested by people who were supposed to be protecting them... the overwhelming sense of betrayal, loss of innocence, self-worth, confusion. Those disgusting men threw an obscene developmental obstacle into the lives of children who had no clue how to cope. The monsters satisfied their lust and passion and walked away as though they had the right and authority to do what they did and the children were insignificant chattel... let their God forgive them, as for me they can rot in hell.

Henry Kissinger quit, good, he's a sleazebag, he had no credibility with anyone... I don't think George wants to make public the level to which our Intelligence Community let us down.

I am hearing a some of negative stuff about the two Economy apologists G.W. hired to be his sycophants. I wish I knew who to believe...  I am worried about the SEC being hamstrung, there is still no protection for the small investor... like me. Here's an interesting article... on a Republican

Christy got off to church on time, I took Mike & Mark to Lancaster at about 10:00, I had to stop at Kaiser to get some of his medicine. I took the kids to Arby's and came home... boring.

I am listening to a motocross race on the web... it will start in a few minutes... it's just very weird to hear a MX race... it's a very visual event and even with a great announcer it's exasperating to listen to... there are no Americans in the 125cc class they are all Dutch and the names are very hard to announce... sorta funny.

We went to the program at Christy's Church, I saw Calie and Lumpy sing, but "B" and Cindy were just awful, well, "B" was, I'm not sure what Cindy's problem was. Cindy was just not tracking very well, she seemed to not be precisely aware of where she was... when I see her like that I worry, she is so helpless, like a deer in headlights, she left the hall and went to one of the dressing rooms and she went into a little trance... I gathered her, "B" and Monica and took them home, Monica was bored stiff.

"Park your car in Harvard Yard" is on the radio, what a wonderful story, Jason Robards, I suspect that it was recorded not too long before he died.

Football and Motorcycle racing today, I interrupted my couch potato existence to take Kids down to Christy's VBS and to pick up Mike at Mark's, we stopped at Acton Market and the Post Office... People are sending me Christmas Cards... I need to get some in the mail pretty soon. I am still pretty tired, so I will just add these two snips from olde newspapers

We have been, up to this point, very careless of our railway regulations.   The first person of rank who is killed will put every thing in order, and produce a code of the most careful rules.   I hope it should not be one of the bishops; but should it so be destined, let the burnt bishop remember that his death will produce unspeakable benefit to the public.

Question:  Why is gaping catching?

Gaping or yawning is infectious, because the streams of blood being ejected out of the mouth, doth infect the ambient air, which being received by the nostrils into another man's mouth, doth irritate the fibres of the hypogastric muscle to discharge by expiration the unfortunate gust of air affected with streams of blood, as aforesaid.
