"It is foolish in the extreme not only to resort to force before necessity compels, but especially to madly create the conditions that will lead to this necessity."

Benjamin Tucker, Liberty, May 22, 1886

I was asked; "Is your politics setting well with you?

Interesting question, to be honest, No…. Politics is opinion, emotion, faith and trust… probably several other things as well. I am still an Obama man, at this stage all he has to offer is hope but to me that is a hell of a lot better than being cursed with a promised four more years of the same bumbling ‘stay the course’ skullduggery that got the country in the state it’s in now. I think Obama can back up his rhetoric.

I don’t listen to the media, they are biased toward increasing their ratings by creating controversy and dissecting every move and word of both candidates, McCain screws up and mentions Yugoslavia and the media jumps him, Obama is told that visiting the troops would be deemed a campaign stop by the Pentagon so he passed and got beat up for snubbing the TROOPS, had he gone he would have been beat up for using the TROOPS for Political Gain…. They can’t win…

I want to give Obama a chance to clean up the mess… I don’t think McCain would even acknowledge there is a mess.

Just my opinion.

The Department of Water Resources Representative stops at a ranch and talks with an old rancher.  He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for your water allocation".

The old rancher says, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there".

The Water Representative says condesendingly, "Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me. See this card? This card means I am allowed to go WHEREVER I WISH on any agricultural land. No questions asked or answered. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?"

The old rancher nods politely and goes about his chores.

Later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the Water Rep running for his life and close behind is the rancher's huge Brahma bull. The bull is gaining with every step.

The Rep is clearly terrified, so the old rancher put down his tools, meanders over to the fence and yells...

"YOUR CARD, SHOW HIM YOUR CARD!!!"

In any country there must be people who have to die. They are the sacrifices any nation has to make to achieve law and order.

Sabine and her family, Ann, Addy & Sebastian and Larry and Bonnie Page and their kids Darla, Rosanna, Richard, David & Eric came over for lunch and I got to play pool with Larry, He's pretty good, has a good eye but needs practice. The problem with my game is practice too. I know what to do and how to do it but execution needs work and the 'luck factor' needs to be eliminated. I can play for position but often times I am unable to predict

Dear Boss,

I have enjoyed working here these past several years. You have paid me very well, given me benefits beyond belief. I have 3-4 months off per year and a pension plan that will pay my

salary till the day I die and a health plan that most people can only dream about.

Despite this, I plan to take the next 12-18 months to find a new position.

During this time I will show up for work when it is convenient. In addition I fully expect to draw my full salary and all the other perks associated with my current job.

Oh yeah, if my search for this new job proves fruitless, I will be back with no loss in pay or status. Before you say anything, remember that you have no choice in the matter. I can and will do this.

  Sincerely,

Every Senator or Congressman running for President.

Try that at your job and tell me how it works out.

It is part of the general pattern of misguided policy that our country is now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificually induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear."

General Douglas MacArthur, Speech, May 15, 1951

Calie's 17th B'day tomorrow, we are celebrating it today because she and Trevor are going to Silverwood, Trevor's present to her. It seems like Calie's Birthday is always low key, this time we didn't have time to bake a cake and he present won't be here till the 7th (at 0945 ET, according to the UPS tracking site). Well, she will have a good time with Trevor

"The feeling of patriotism - It is an immoral feeling because, instead of confessing himself a son of God .. or even a free man guided by his own reason, each man under the influence of patriotism confesses himself the son of his fatherland and the slave of his government, and commits actions contrary to his reason and conscience." : Leo Tolstoy, Patriotism and Government
"A modern gentleman is necessarily the enemy of his country. Even in war he does not fight to defend it, but to prevent his power of preying on it from passing to a foreigner." : George Bernard Shaw

"As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless." : U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 - (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) - Ref: The Lincoln Encyclopedia, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY)
They (corporations) cannot commit treason, nor be outlawed, nor excommunicated, for they have no souls: Lord Edward Coke

Why Is Congress Doing So Little?

The current Congress has enacted less legislation than any within the last decade, according to a new analysis from the nonpartisan Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS). The 110th Congress has passed just 260 laws—and 74 of those were renaming post offices. But they have passed hundreds of resolutions, including one to recognize soil as an “essential resource” and another to congratulate the UC-Irvine volleyball team.

Rep. John Shimkus (R., Ill.) introduced a resolution to recognize June 30 as National Corvette Day. “It’s probably not the best use of our time,” he says, “but we have to do something. These resolutions make it look like we’re working.” Shimkus blames the Democrats for failing to introduce more substantive legislation. Democrats, in turn, blame Republicans for blocking key votes, contending that Senate Republicans have attempted a record number of filibusters this session.

“If there’s anything Americans are tired of, it’s partisanship,” says Steve Ellis of TCS. “If they’re not passing substantive laws, Congress should be conducting oversight, making sure our tax dollars are spent wisely. Frivolous bills and resolutions distract attention from what voters sent them to Washington to do.”
