Monday April 24 , 2006 If stock market experts were so expert, they would be buying stock, not selling advice. Norman R. Augustine, industrialist (1935- )
We brought Grandma home last night, she checked out OK, no heart or respiratory problems, we will take her in to the Selkirk Clinic ASAP. Grandpa stayed home to watch the dog. We took Grandma to breakfast, Grandpa stayed home to watch the dog... getting old fast. I worked down by the shop raking and mulching and shredding ... I am whipped... but the hillside looks good I have another day's work on that section. Then I can moved to the previous owners dump... yuck. I read an article http://web.morons.org/article.jsp?sectionid=10&id=6914 about the stunt some tagger pulled by writing Still Free on Air Force One... only it wasn't real, it was a hoax. It was covered I the news on Yahoo...It was obvious that he didn't have all the facts and had missed the news item on this 'stunt' a few days ago. Not a crime by any stretch of the imagination. I went to his site to send him a link to the story and about 60 people and beat me to the punch, I read the Blog and about a quarter of the responders were just [the only word that pops to mind is 'Bratty'] So, what I want to know is what is the compulsion of responders to be rude, confrontational and disrespectful? My suspicion is that anonymity on the Internet provides small minded insecure un-worldly children with a channel to vent their otherwise ineffectual ravings for the world to see. How sad. How pathetic. I am afraid that the only way to rid the Internet of these cowardly little vandals is to force the ISP's to send out the names telephone numbers and addresses of everyone on the Net... I, for one, wish they would. Over the last 15 years on the Net I have come up with a general rule for responding to anyone or anything on the Net. "Never say anything on the Net that I wouldn't say to the person face to face in front of my entire family." Tuesday April 25 , 2006 Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do. Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do. Mark Twain I guess I really did a number on my back yesterday... it hurts in the same spot it has been hurting when I aggravate the nerve down near the section of my spin where the Arthritis is... damn. I will have to take it easy for a day or two. The garage doors and opener will be installed today, I haven't even paid for them yet! I love this place. I called the guy and told him the situation... The guys arrived about 20 minutes later than they predicted, not bad for a drive from Spokane. The doors are in and working... they did a good job, hell of a lot better than the the ones they took out... The button on the wall quit working after they left but I found the short where they stripped the insulation back too far and it came into contact with one of the solder terminals on the circuitboard... lucky it was easy to fix or I might have had to call them out again.
This is a picture of a snatch block... I have really enjoyed the work I have been doing the past couple of days... Mark Twain hit it on the head...it's fun because I want to do it.
Wednesday April 26 , 2006 Kindness is not without its rocks ahead. People are apt to put it down to an easy temper and seldom recognize it as the secret striving of a generous nature; whilst, on the other hand, the ill-natured get credit for all the evil they refrain from. Honore De Balzac, novelist (1799-1850), Trash day,,, I worked all morning loading up the previous owners trash into my truck... what a mess, new record for me at the dump... $38.43, 800 pounds of mostly wet books and paramedic detritus discarded in his rush to get to Seattle... I pulled something in my right shoulder, aggravated the tendonitis in my left elbow, and all the shoveling and raking has torn my hands up by inflaming the arthritis...... I'm falling apart Monica and I burned some rotten wood and other stuff from the old burn pile... that was fun Thursday April 27 , 2006 One of the oldest human needs is having someone to wonder where you are when you don't come home at night. Margaret Mead, anthropologist (1901-1978)
Spokane, we got some really good vibes from Dr. Anthony today, He can't feel the tumors in Christy's breast at all... it doesn't mean she is cured, we still have a long haul but it's the first tangible 'good news' we haf had and it's a straw we can cling to. Friday April 28 , 2006 When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. Jimi Hendrix, musician, singer, and songwriter (1942-1970) I took Christian in to see Rick (Our Dr. at The Selkirk Clinic) he is acting as our Psychiatrist too. He prescribes medication for two of our kids that will (hopefully) help them focus on school. I puttered some more in the yard and the shop. Saturday April 29 , 2006 The only people on earth who do not see Christ and His teachings as nonviolent are Christians. Mohandas K. Gandhi More puttering today, started a siphon on the pool, cleaned up that huge old snatch block I found out back and tried to make a dent in the shop but didn't get far. Sunday April 30 , 2006 An important antidote to American democracy is American gerontocracy. The positions of eminence and authority in Congress are allotted in accordance with length of service, regardless of quality. Superficial observers have long criticized the United States for making a fetish of youth. This is unfair. Uniquely among modern organs of public and private administration, its national legislature rewards senility. John Kenneth Galbraith (1908 - 4/30/2006 Cleaned house for the Licensing Social Worker, Baldo will be coming back in August and we have to have our house inspected... tedious pain in the butt but it has to be done. The house looks pretty good, except for the kids rooms... I am not going to clean them... it galls me even to think about it.
