Solitude, though it may be silent as light, is like light, the mightiest of agencies; for solitude is essential to man. All men come into this world alone; all leave it alone.

Thomas De Quincey, writer (1785-1859)

Woke up at 0300 with the Dervish Flu (I made that up). With the Dervish Flu, when you enter the bathroom you have to make a decision as to whether you need to sit on it or pray to it. I was up all the rest of the night making those choices, It was nip and tuck a couple of times.

I got the little kids to school and went back to bed. Christy took Mike in for his re-admittance interview. They screwed up with the previous meeting and it ran over an hour so Christy just left Mike there... they said that they will call at 1100, the finally called at 1340...

This is some miserable flu... I can't keep my eyes open.

Christy came down with the damn flu about 1430... not the same symptoms but...

Monica started throwing up about 2200... in my bedroom... on the carpet... on my side of the bed... damn.

"Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe."

H. G. Wells (1866-1946)

Cindy wasn't feeing so good this morning, she was faking... I didn't feel like fighting her... I didn't feel much like being up myself... Mike took off for school on time and I took Autumn and "B"... Mokie and Cindy stayed home...with Calie and Christian

The believer is happy; the doubter is wise.

Hungarian proverb

With this quote in mind, I think I struggle to be happy but strive to be wise. I would prefer to be happy but any wisdom I manage to glean does seem to come at the expense of innocence.

I went out looking at Motorcycles... I think I found one, an 1100cc Honda twin Harley Clone... called the Shadow. Actually it's a Harley that won't vibrate your teeth out or leak...

Today must be my day for rants, I was listening to a commentator on the local network news interview a fella bemoaning the fact that the people in the Administration aren't backing up what Bush said he wanted in regards to Stem-Cell research, Fetal Cell research and all the other things... "George Bush doesn't have people on his team that reflect his philosophy".  In other words, his complaint is that those people in the Administration are betraying poor gullible ole George... damn... how pathetically naive can you get... George is getting exactly what he wants from the people he appointed... that's how it works folks... you hire flunkies to do the dirty work and you keep the high ground, it's called the Texas Two-Step... If you want to know how it works, rent The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas with Bert Reynolds and Dolly Parton, George modeled himself after Charles Durning's character...

I see this one particular Soccer Mom every day. She walks from the Acton School to the 76 Station and she still gives me dirty looks every day... it all stems from from one day about 4 years ago... I would take the kids to soccer practice and then walk around the fields for an hour twice a week... I would get bored so to keep my numb mind occupied I would snag a plastic grocery bag out of the trash and pick up candy wrappers and soda cans and other refuse as I walked... one day as I was doing this the "Soccer Mom" stopped me and said "There is a whole lot of trash behind the baseball backstop over there...pointing at the only baseball back stop and turning my shoulder to be sure I saw where she was pointing, like I was simple minded or something. I said "I'm about done now, but here (handing her the shopping bag) you can use my bag... there are more in the trash can over there" (I said while pointing and turning her shoulder in the proper direction) I am not sure if she is pissed at me for for making her look like the Yuppie Princess she is or because I didn't do her bidding and pick up the trash.

I wonder what it's going to take to convince people like her that there are valuable, productive people in the world who don't buy new cars every six months or place getting a haircut above taking their kid to the park... people can have full productive lives and not agree with a damn thing they think makes life worth living, people who think their goofy trendy haircut is... goofy, they think their chic Polynesian tattoo is going to look ridiculous in the Nursing Home, and if the shoes make you walk like that why do you wear them?. The world owes me nothing, nobody owes me a damn thing... that's it.

Another crazy day... It suddenly dawned on me that Autumn and "B"'s school activities are both at 0900 on Friday... that made me mad... same day is bad enough... why schedule them for the same time? When I dropped off Autumn I found out that they would be holding a practice at 0900,I drove home and got my camera and took a bunch of pictures (His picture is of her trying to catch up to the other kids... they were about three moves ahead of her but she tried very hard and with a big smile) and used up the rest of the tape in my video camera...Apparently my presence there up set her... I think the problem was that "Daddy isn't supposed to be at school unless he is picking me up"... she cried and got obstinate so I took her home, she played at home for about a half an hour and then I took her and Calie to McDonalds and then to school... she seemed happy to get back there.

I came home and lied down for about fifteen minutes and Sonny called to come pick up the VW... he's going to make a Dune Buggy out of it... bends Mike's nose but ... Oh well... As sonny was driving off it was time to go get Cindy, Calie cam along and we went to the liquor store and got a six-pack of Sprite to share with the kids... Got the mail then picked up Autumn a few minutes early, after picking up "B" and Mokie I went home, Mike didn't come home on the bus so I went into Palmdale to pick him up... I went by the Honda place and told them I was going to buy the 1100 Shadow, they said I could pick it up in the morning, paying by check is OK... Cool. I drove up to the Honda place in Lancaster and bought a helmet $60 cheaper than the place in Palmdale. I also had to pick up medicine at the Pharmacy.. A new prescription for Christian and, Christy was there yesterday and they didn't have enough pills to fill two prescriptions so I had to pick them up too... turns out that they still didn't have enough. They seem to be real inefficient in the evenings for some reason... they took a long time to wait on me just to take the prescription and they took forever to tell me they didn't have enough pills for "B"'s Tenex.

I made it home finally and discovered that I had lost my cell phone some damn place... I would lose the damn thing the day I went to every damn place in two valleys.

"Everything is hopeless, but nothing is serious."

Billy Wilder

After tearing around town looking for my Cell Phone and getting to the point where I was about to call ATT I decided to take a peek in the shed, I looked around in all the places I might have laid it down and nada, as I was walking out I caught a glimpse of something grey, bout a 1/2 inch sticking out from under the compressor... I have no idea how it got there, it must have bounced out of my pocket and slid under there... wheeew...

Christy and I split up the performances, she went to Meadowlark because she has never seen her in a show...I have seen a couple rehearsals and I saw the show last year... I went to see "B" get his award, when I got there I talked to Mrs. Ray and she said the procedure has changed this year. Instead of going class by class and going through all the achievement awards each time, they would do all classes simultaneously starting with the Super Star Academic awards and work down to the kids that get the Citizenship and Attendance Award... The kids who have managed to get through a week or two without hitting anyone. She said it would take over an hour to get to the end of it all so I jumped into the car and drove to Meadowlark, I got there just as Autumn got on stage and took some pictures Autumn is in two Kindergartens so she was on first with Mrs. Millars class and last with Mrs. Raineri's... As the applause was dying down I ran back to my car and drove to see "B"'s ceremony... I got there about ten minutes before he got his award, I got some pictures and ran back to the car again and drove to Meadowlark... Autumn's class was just finishing their first song with two more to go... We video taped the whole thing and I got several more pictures. Watching Autumn do the "Virginia Reel" is worth the price of admission.

It is interesting how totally riveting it is to watch your kid on stage, totally enthralling, but when she is off the stage the intervening acts are cute but sort of tedious... all the kids are just as adorable as your own but... not really.

Christy took me down to to Palmdale Honda and dropped me off on the way to her Doctors appointment. Before I got out of the car she asked "Are you sure you have checks?" I said "Sure, I just wrote one yesterday" I don't even have to tell you where this story is going do I. How embarrassing... I called her and she came right back, she was only a few minutes late for her appointment.

Well, The bike is going to take some getting used to, it's a twin so there is more vibration than I am used to. It's a beast... I like it. I put about 100 miles on it. I will have to cool it till I get insurance... I need to get my Drivers License renewed with an M2 sticker. CHP has a motorcycle course, I may try it.

I took mike to K-Mart for shirts and there is a sale going on. What a zoo... I went back later with Mokie and Calie

Saturday March 30, 2002

Went shopping, I made a mistake, lapse in memory... shook me up... I don't know how many people out there have experienced making a colossal airhead mistake. One that shakes you to the core and makes you doubt everything you think you know about yourself, well I did. I won't say what I did, suffice to say, I am shaken. Everybody thinks they know what they are capable of but if something happens that demonstrates, potentially fatally, that their perception of their ability to function responsibly and autonomously is not as absolute as they believe, then it's time to take action.

The bottom line is that I need to know if I am developing a problem with my memory, I have always deemed myself to have a lazy short-term memory... always. I misplace things, I forget to mail letters, forget to pick up things at the store that I originally went to the store to get. It's been getting worse but I have written it off to the fact that I am doing more in my day than most folks, I am trying to track the comings and goings of nine people (I am including myself). Christy is home less because of teaching, school and church activities so it adds more responsibilities... hell I don't know if I have a problem or if I need a vacation

Sunday March 31, 2002

Pretty good day, Easter went off OK, Mister E. Bunny managed to make his appointed rounds at about 2330, early for him.

We got out the door and on our way to Riverside at about1045... an earlier than usual start for us, we took two cars again... worked out OK, Mike worked hard to get his bike tied to the roof of Mom's car but he tied it so tight he was about to cave in the roof. I had to take it off...

We had enchilada's for lunch... pretty good, Blaine is an above average cook, Karen and Blain team up for dinners. I talked to Wayne for a while, he had gotten mad at MSN E-Mail and switched to Hotmail (without getting my permission.). If you are a member of the MSN Network MSN must remove you from the POP3 server and move you to the Web Based server... there is no way back without their help.

I took a lot of pictures. Ate well, trip to an from was uneventful except for the volume of traffic...

March ends... April Begins... a quarter of the year is gone and it seems impossible... what a pain... just when you reach a period in your life when you want to slow time down it speeds up.
